pain in that region is due to so many causes...
**pocket formation
**deep cavities in 2nd and 3 rd molar
**Erupting 3 rd molar...
x-ray(IOPA and OPG) of that invoved region is necessary to rule out the cause...
If it is due to deep cavities fillings or root canal treatment is necessary....
If it I due tp erupting 3 rd molar,you need to go for surgical removal followed by analgesics and antibiotics...

Severe gum pain might be due to excessive deposited tartar which leads to gum inflammation. Proceed with general scaling first followed by application of gum astringent and mouth rinse . Visit the nearby dentist asap.
There are many reasons for pain in gums for exact reason you need to see nearest dentist. For symptomatic relief you can take mild pain killers , salt Luke warm water gargles can also help.
Your problem and age is mostly suggestive of a third molar erruption.
However many other reasons like trauma, deep cavity, pockets etc could be the cause for this.
