Tongue numbness - wisdom tooth removal
I had a lower wisdom tooth removed about one year ago. Since then, I’ve had altered sensation on the left side of my tongue — not complete numbness,(slight numbness )but increased sensitivity, especially to spicy food. I took Nervigen Plus for months(5) and noticed some improvement, but stopped after that. I’d like a proper evaluation for a possible lingual nerve injury and to know whether any further treatment or supplements could still help.

You may consult a maxillofacial surgeon. Low level laser therapy is also helpful in such conditions

Your symptoms are most consistent with a mild lingual nerve irritation/injury following lower wisdom tooth removal. Since you never had complete numbness and noticed some improvement, this suggests a partial nerve injury, which is reassuring. After one year, major recovery is less likely, but minor improvement can still occur. Nerve vitamin supplements may help with symptoms, though dramatic changes are unlikely at this stage. A clinical sensory examination by an oral & maxillofacial surgeon can confirm the diagnosis.

Hello, Altered tongue sensation after lower wisdom tooth removal is usually due to lingual nerve sensitivity. Since you noticed some improvement earlier, it suggests the nerve is functioning but irritable, not permanently damaged. At this stage, treatment focuses on reducing nerve sensitivity rather than supplements alone. Certain neuropathic medications and topical desensitizing measures can help with burning or spicy-food sensitivity. A detailed clinical nerve assessment is advised to decide the best line of management. Meanwhile, avoid very spicy or hot foods and any local trauma to the area.
