Your question pertains to the sounds you hear when you move your jaw front and back. The sounds are created by the articular disc which is a fibrous-cartilaginous structure between skull bone and lower jaw (with, in the TMJ ) on both sides. This disc absorbs shock when lower jaw moves The movement of this disc within the joint leads to these clicking sounds. Not all sounds are pathological. If you have no associated symptoms of TMJ disorder like pain, soreness etc, then these sounds may be normal. . However don’t use excessive force to open or close or try excessive eccentric movements of the jaw that may lead to problems like TMJ disorder, dislocation.

t's essential to understand that TMJ issues can vary in their presentation and symptoms. While a TMJ splint can help alleviate certain symptoms like clicking or popping sounds during mouth opening and closing, it may not completely eliminate all noises when moving the jaw front and back. The splint provides support and helps to align the jaw properly, reducing stress on the temporomandibular joint. However, other factors such as muscle tension, joint structure, or certain movements can still contribute to some noise. It's recommended to consult with a qualified dentist or specialist who can assess your specific condition and provide appropriate guidance and treatment options to address your TMJ concerns effectively. Remember, seeking professional advice is crucial to ensure proper diagnosis and personalized care.
