Time taken for dental cleaning/scaling
Hi. How much time is usually taken for scaling/cleaning/polishing of teeth to remove stains caused by chlorhexidine mouthwash? Can you please explain the procedure to me? Does it require prolonged mouth opening? I have TMJ Disorder due to which I always avoid too much mouth opening. Is there any other remedy apart from teeth cleaning?

Chlorhexidine shouldn't be used for longer durations due to side effects like staining and taste alterations. However, the stains caused are extrinsic and can be removed by scaling and polishing. Scaling can be done in multiple visits like separately for upper and lower acrches or even quadrant wise. Being TMJ patient you should take short appointments that you can tolerate well.

Hii How do you know they are chlorhexidine mouthwash stains ? Have you been diagnosed before, usually the OTC available mouthwash contains only 0.2% chlorhexidine which does not cause staining. Also if you can share the picture of your teeth it would be helpful to tell about the treatment procedure and time.

Hi, The time taken for professional teeth cleaning varies depending on the amount of plaque deposits and stains over the teeth. If you have TMJ disorder, the procedure can be done with short breaks in the middle of the procedure.
