Symptoms after traumatic event
My best friend passed away 2 week ago n ever since I have been having lot of physical symptoms of anxiety- my BP has been staying 150/100.. I feel weird tightness in my chest and deep ache.. Doctor gave me clonazapem, mindzol and some sedative- but still, I am feeling quite bad, both physically and mentally Can you please suggest how much time does it take for physical symptoms to settle down due to anxiety? And is there any way that I can fasten this process? I want to move out from grief.

I’m really sorry for your loss — what you’re feeling is completely natural. Grief can cause strong physical symptoms like chest tightness, high BP, and anxiety. It usually takes a few weeks for the body to settle, but healing happens gradually. 🌿
Next Steps
Let’s talk in detail and review your BP and medicines together. Please consult me online whenever you can — I’ll help you through this.

I'm so sorry for your loss—losing a best friend is devastating, and 2 weeks is still acute grief. Physical anxiety symptoms (high BP 150/100, chest tightness/ache) from intense grief can take 4–12 weeks to noticeably ease as your nervous system recalibrates, but daily spikes can drop within 1–3 weeks with consistent coping.
Next Steps
30-min brisk walk or deep breathing 3×/day (lowers BP 5–10 mmHg acutely). Grief ritual: write a short letter to your friend nightly for 7 days—reduces rumination. Sleep hygiene + limit caffeine/alcohol—sedatives help short-term but can prolong anxiety if overused. See your doctor this week for BP recheck; if >140/90 persists, add low-dose beta-blocker or CBT referral. You’re not alone—grief counseling accelerates healing.

I’m really sorry for your loss. What you’re going through is a normal response to grief — the body often reacts with anxiety symptoms like chest tightness, restlessness, and raised BP for a few weeks. These physical sensations usually ease gradually over 3–6 weeks as your mind processes the loss. Continue the medicines prescribed, try slow deep-breathing or mindfulness for 10–15 min daily, and ensure good hydration and sleep. Avoid excess caffeine or screen exposure at night. If the chest pain increases, or BP remains >150/100 mmHg despite rest, it’s important to recheck once to rule out any cardiac cause. You don’t have to go through this alone — therapy or guided counselling helps heal faster. We can connect over a quick video consultation to review your current meds and guide you through recovery in a structured way. — Dr. Yash Duragkar, MD Medicine

It is normal for anyone who has lost a loved one to feel the grief. It is good that you are trying to come out of it. It would further take 2 to 3 weeks more for you to settle down and there is no fastening this process as its an natural phenomenon to which you will have to adjust.
Next Steps
Things I would recommend for you to do is keep yourself occupied and be on the regular medication which have been prescribed to you .
Health Tips
do not use any other medications apart from the ones prescribed to you by the doctor and do not take excess dose of medication just because you have access to it . The medications should only be taken in proper dose at proper interval. No more no less. If the symptoms keep persisting or increasing I would suggest you to visit nearby specialist for further clinical assessment and better treatment. Hope you recover soon and take care of yourself. Feel free to check in for any other clarification.
