Have braces for 5 months now but now having swelling in backmost gum .This is the 1st time it has happened.

The swelling in back most gum should not be associated with braces . It can be a different reason like an erupting molar or an infected molar . You should visit a dentist

Consult a dentist. If required do an X-ray to check the cause of swelling.sometimes plaque deposits can also cause gum swelling
