Sleeping issue
Hi, i am having issues in sleeping since march end. Even when i am sleepy at night and want to sleep i am not able to sleep. I feel like a sudden pull or shake whenever i try to sleep at night. It scares me at times. Sometimes i feel like my whole body is going numb. It happens for a few seconds only but it happens every time i start sleeping at night. As a result of which i have stopped sleeping at night. I sleep in the morning around 4 am, doesn't matter if i am sleepy at 11 pm or 1 pm or any other time, these things keep happening till morning. I have tried meditation, sleeping audios but nothing is working. Please help.

Hello! Thank you for reaching out. It sounds like this has been really distressing for you to deal with and is hampering your rest. These are really troubling times and can have an impact on our living and sleeping schedules. There could be a variety of reasons and other surrounding factors that could be causing this. You might have to work with a doctor or a mental health practitioner to establish the exact cause and solutions. However, there are some steps you can take while you reach out to a professional. Establishing sleep hygiene can be important to tackle difficulties faced during sleeping at night. Sleep Hygiene includes, setting a consistent routine of sleeping and waking up at the same time- winding down the use of electronic gadgets half an hour before going to bed. During this time, it can be helpful to read, listen to calming music or an audiobook, wearing comfortable clothes, washing your face among other activities that you find relaxing. This helps prepare your body to adjust to get into the zone of sleeping. Exercise during the evening, and light stretches before sleeping can also ensure that your body is prepared for sleeping. Additionally, enabling the digital wellbeing app on your device can help. Turn off your phone at a particular time and keep it physically away (in a different room or an inaccessible place) so as to lower the temptation to reach out for it. Often when we are constantly worried about something, our body stores the worry in our body- causing inability to sleep. However, we strongly advise you to consult a mental health practitioner regarding the same before self-diagnosis. Credits: Parul Pushkarna, Intern at Heart It Out

Dear Human, thank you for sharing and reaching out. I appreciate the fact that you’ve reached out for help. I assure you that you’ve done the right thing, and it’s a significant step towards dealing with this problem that you’ve been facing. I can understand that struggling with falling asleep can be difficult and cause discomfort. I’m glad you’ve already tried some ways to help you sleep better; surely, we’ll find something that works for you. I highly recommend that you seek professional help to manage this situation, because therapy can help to explore the underlying causes for your concerns and also you would learn healthy ways to cope with this. Several factors such as diet and exercise, stress and mental fatigue, anxiety, or purely biological factors could be the cause of the sleep difficulties you’re facing. Since I do not have sufficient information about your situation, I cannot comment further on the cause of your problem. It is best we connect and get to the bottom of this. Meanwhile, I can suggest that you reduce screen time and increase physical exercise by doing basic stretches and cardio. I also highly recommend that you practice the following relaxation technique: When you get into bed at the end of the day, lie down straight on your back with your eyes closed- take your time, get comfortable and notice your breathing. Gradually, starting from your feet and moving upwards just take notice of your body parts (notice how it feels- if there’s any strain or an itch, feel the wind or the lack of it, become aware of the feeling between your toes, at the back of your neck etc.).

Hope this helps :) Take care!
