Single sitting rct usually done in single sitting. Single sitting RCT is only done in those cases where there is no abscess in tooth . Or the tooth structure is not compromised. No periapical lesion present . Single sitting RCT are less time taking as compare to traditional RCT but the success rate is more in traditional RCT or multiple sitting RCT as compare to single sitting RCT.

Single sitting RCT is usually done in single rooted tooth and also done where there is no acute infection. It is not preferred by many dentist as sometimes the thorough cleaning done in RCT procedure requires more than one sitting. This differs from case to case though. It is possible only in specific cases as all the cases differ in the amount of infection persisting at that moment.
Next Steps
Please ask your dentist to explain the procedure elaborately so that there is no doubt concerning the same.
Health Tips
Please go ahead if you are satisfied with the explanation given by the dentist.

In my opinion I prefer doing single sitting RCTs only. And there are conditions such as pus discharge, periapical lesions where we contraindicate single sitting RCT. I depends on the tooth and its condition.

Hi! Sittings depends on assessment of how successful the case will be. If the infection in the concerned tooth is less then single sitting RCT is done. If infection is more or pain persits- then to let it resolve multiple sitting is opted. Single sitting RCT - the whole procedure from opening the root part through the crown , removing the infected pulp(nerve), cleaning the root canal and finally filling it with a material which is biocompatible and helps ceasing the bacterial growth- all these are done in a single same sitting.
Next Steps
Dentist will decide whether to go for single or multiple sitting which varies from case to case and person to person. ( even when case is favourable for single sitting if the patient is not co operative or gets tired of keeping the mouth open for long duration then in such cases it is done in multiple sittings.)
Health Tips
Both procedures main aim is to save the tooth and don't trouble you in future. Don't forget to restore it with a crown post RCT. Take care.
