I am a sophomore in high school, and it is currently in the middle of track season. I’ve had shin splints from playing asketball during the summer, but recently they gotten much worse. A couple days of rest and ice seems to do not much as it hurts like hell whenever I jog slightly. What should I do? There is a small swollen area on the inner side of my legs just below the calves.

These are due to deficiency of essential minerals in the bone and cause severe pain on start of activity. Severe ones are stress fractures again due to deficiency. If its severe then you will have to take break from running activities for a couple of weeks. Take some analgesics and start vitamin D 60K IU every week with calcium around 500mg twice a day. Take high protein and calcium rich diet.. Thanks.
