In schizophrenia it is indicated only for certain situations. It is also done under anesthesia and has its risks and benefits like a surgery. Get the details explained by your treating psychiatrist before jumping in. Good luck
Better to go for medical management first. If that does not work then you can go for ECT. For depression 12-15 sessions are required in the acute phase and then the maintenance phase depends. Yes in resistant schizophrenia we can give ECT
Please visit a psychiatrist. They will explain in detail what ECT is and how it can help you.
In short yes ECT is a treatment modality used in your diagnosis and can be effective.
ECT is a good non pharmaceutical treatment option for several psychiatric disorders but it is generally recommended only when several trials of different medications have failed to elicit a proper response.
If you are planning for an ECT you need to discuss at length with your treating psychiatrist and understand the procedure, risks involved, complications, and expectations of symptom remission.
If u still have symptoms you can go for it.. Its safe and no sessions is decided once u start to see improvement
