scaling should be done once in every 6-8 months, it doesn't cause any sort of loosening instead it removes all the tartar and help the gums and teeth to regain health, Bad breath has multiple causes,in case it is associated with your oral cavity, you would just need scaling and post that you will take care of your teeth and also clean your tongue on a regular basis
