Looks like you could have met with some accident as per your Report . Retinacular tear may require Surgical correction.how ever but your surgeon may take a call ..you may be asked to take some rest wearing a supporting brace.if you improve symptomatically like less pain and functionally independent then you may not need any further intervention.
Recovery cannot be fastened it will take it own course of time and usually it wont be so long even if you undergo surgery.Rest plays key role in recovery and during recovery u need to keep your muscle tone by practicing exercises
