You will have a blood test repeatedly for the TSH level. Your dose of Thyroid hormone will depend on the TSH level.    I don't understand the relevance of the second part of your question. Suppose you really have to take Thyroid hormone throughout your life,  will you let your unborn baby suffer, even to the extent of becoming an abnormal child (inside the uterus) just  to avoid the possibility of  taking the medicine for the rest of your life ? Are you really so selfish ?

It is unpredictable how long you will have to take this medicine but then you need to understand that the mental well being of the baby will depend upon your eu thyroid levels in pregnancy in the first trimester TSH should be less than 2.5 you will definitely have to take the medicine
