Recurring anterior shoulder dislocation
I've had the captioned issue for over 2 years now. Do I absolutely need a surgery? Or can the same be cured by medication and / or physiotherapy?

Mechanical problems have to be dealt with surgery.
Best for you would be arthroscopic bankarts repair or latarjet depending on size and type of lesion.
Get a MRI done and share.
