Query regarding Rabies
Hello, a dog might have eaten from the garbage bag as it was open and loose. When I saw the bag no dog was to be seen nearby but bag's contents were loose. I waited 2-3 mins then tried to lift the bag with a stick and to place it aside, but it fell on ground and some liquid drops splashed up in my eyes. Can I get rabies if the dog was rabid?

The rabies virus is fragile and dies very quickly outside of a living host (e.g., when exposed to sun, drying, or water). However, if the water was mixed with garbage and wasn't fresh, wet saliva directly from an infected animal, the risk is generally considered to be negligible. If both of mentioned above are met, no need of Rabies vaccine. Even if you had washed your eyes with running water immediately even the not needed. Water splash could be from underneath of garbage bag which was untouched by dog. In such cases you don't need rabies vaccine. If nothing mentioned above is met, please get Anti rabies vaccine done from local hospital.

Better if you go for vaccination for precautionary management. Vaccine is 100% safe and no harm.but rabies is 100% fatal if symptoms appears.so Better if you go for vaccination rather chance is rare but why take chance.
