I also need to take the pneumonia vaccine. Kindly suggest which vaccine I should take and whether it's a single dose or multiple doses. I am a 35 year old male.

Hello, 1. Yes, you can take influvac tetra. Also the vaccine is to taken every year around September to avoid getting the viral fever altogether. 2. Pneumonia vaccine is usually recommended only if you’re above 50 yrs of age or a high risk individual with multiple medical issues or an immunocompromised person. Still for your reference : You’ve to take Inj. Prevenar first, which is a single dose only. 2 months after that, Inj. Pneumovac should be taken, which should then be repeated every 5 years.

Flu vaccine and Pneumonia vaccine are not routinely required for everyone. General indications for the vaccine are: *If you have high risk medical conditions *If you have chronic respiratory problems like Asthma, COPD etc *If you are immunocompromised due to a condition/s or from treatments for another illness *If you are a healthcare professional who will be working with patients If you are in the group that actually needs a vaccine then wait a week before you have your jabs. You need to think twice before taking antibiotics, they are never needed in case of viral infections and 90% of the times for other reasons they are prescribed, they should not be. So always consult before starting antibiotics. And unless there are specific reasons for taking a pneumococcal vaccine, you don’t need it at this age

First of all antibiotics are for bacterial infection, not for viral fever. In viral fever they are only useful in treatment of any secondary infection caused by other bacteria. You are free from symptoms for 1 day only, kindly take the vaccine after at least 4 weeks.

Yes. Taking influenza vaccine is safe even if you are on antibiotics, as long as you are symptom-free and no fever now. Viral illness + antibiotics does not affect influenza vaccine. 2. Pneumonia vaccine for a 35-year-old male For healthy adults below 50, pneumonia vaccine is not routinely required, unless you have high-risk conditions like: Diabetes Asthma/COPD Heart/kidney/liver disease Smoker Immunocompromised If you are high-risk, the recommended option is: ✅ PCV20 (Prevnar-20) — single dose only, no booster needed. If PCV20 is not available: ➡️ PCV13 (single dose) → followed by PPSV23 after 1 year. If you are healthy with no risk factors, you don’t need pneumonia vaccine at 35.

You may take the Influvac Tetra vaccine once you are symptom-free for at least 24–48 hours; ongoing antibiotics do not interfere with the flu vaccine. For pneumonia protection at your age, the recommended option is a single dose of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV13 or PCV15) followed by one dose of PPSV23 after one year, especially if you have recurrent respiratory infections or risk factors. These are not taken yearly; they are usually one-time doses with long-term protection. Please consult a nearby vaccination centre to schedule both vaccines safely.

Can you take Influvac Tetra while on antibiotics Yes, you can. Taking antibiotics does not interfere with flu vaccines. Since your viral symptoms have resolved and you are stable, you can safely take the Influvac Tetra now. Only avoid vaccination if: You have fever You feel unwell You have severe allergy to egg protein (rare) Otherwise, you are good to go. Influvac Tetra can be taken safely even during/after antibiotics. No waiting period needed.
Next Steps
For adults below 60, pneumonia vaccine is recommended only if you want extra protection, or if you have any risk factors such as: Asthma Diabetes Smoking Heart disease Lung disease Frequent respiratory infections If none of these apply and you are generally healthy, vaccination is optional, but still beneficial. There are two options: 1: Single Vaccine Strategy (Most modern) PCV20 (Prevnar 20) • Only 1 dose for lifetime • Covers 20 pneumococcal strains • Most convenient & preferred in 2024 guidelines • No booster needed If available, this is the best choice. Option 2: Older, Two-Vaccine Strategy If PCV20 is not available: Step 1: PCV13 (Prevnar 13) – one dose THEN after 8 weeks Step 2: PPSV23 (Pneumovax 23) – one dose This gives broad coverage but requires two visits. Which One Should YOU Take at Age 35? If you want simplest & strongest protection → PCV20 single dose If PCV20 is unavailable → PCV13 now → PPSV23 after 8 weeks
