For a 43-year-old male from Bangalore with fasting sugar 100 mg/dl and HbA1c 6.1 percent, this indicates prediabetes. Medicine is usually not needed at this stage if you can maintain strict lifestyle changes. Prediabetes can often be reversed with regular exercise, diet control, and weight management. Start brisk walking or cycling for at least 40 to 45 minutes a day for five to six days a week. Avoid refined carbohydrates, white rice, sweets, and sugary drinks. Eat more fiber, vegetables, pulses, and moderate protein at every meal. Control portion size and avoid long gaps between meals. Reduce late dinners and manage stress and sleep. Repeat HbA1c every 3 months to track progress. If your values rise or stay above 6.4 despite consistent efforts, then medication may be needed. For a structured reversal plan and regular follow-up, book a consult with me (Dr. Pankaj Kumar) on Practo.
