Plaque is the soft white film which forms on one's teeth. Plaque formation is a natural phenomenon. That said, it is not a desirable thing to let plaque fester uncleaned, as it harbours bacteria harmful to oral health. Over time uncleaned plaque mineralises and hardens to form Tartar (calculus), which is the hardened layer of filth which is very unhealthy for teeth and gums. Brushing daily tries to control the plaque formation, not eliminate it. So congratulations on brushing twice daily! You are already well on your way to good oral health! :) You must try to floss once daily, as it will help to clear up any lodged food particles, which are often not reached by normal brushing. You may want to visit your dentist to learn how to floss properly, as improper flossing may be potentially harmful to gum health. And maybe visit the dentist with your parents, to help her address any concerns that they may have.
Next Steps
Continue brushing twice daily. Visit your dentist to understand do's and don'ts of flossing.
