Palpitations after eating Kiwi
I am experiencing palpitations, excessive sweating (including sweaty palms), and a general feeling of uneasiness. These symptoms started after I ate kiwi fruit and had indigestion with loose motions. I also had itching in my eyes, for which I took Cetirizine (Citrusin). I am concerned whether this could be an allergic reaction, dehydration, or related to my stomach problem.

Could be anxiety or due to dehydration. Get Haemoglobin,  ecg and cardiac echo done to exclude any underlying problem.

Your symptoms: • Palpitations • Excessive sweating (including palms) • Uneasiness • Loose motions • Eye itching Started after eating kiwi fruit. There are 3 likely possibilities: 1️⃣ Mild allergic reaction Kiwi is a known allergenic fruit. Symptoms like: • Eye itching • Gut upset • Sweating • Palpitations (from adrenaline release) can occur in mild food allergy. However, you did NOT mention: • Lip swelling • Throat tightness • Breathlessness • Hives So this does NOT sound like severe anaphylaxis. ⸻ 2️⃣ Dehydration + electrolyte imbalance Loose motions can cause: • Fluid loss • Mild potassium imbalance • Palpitations • Sweaty feeling • Weakness This is very common. ⸻ 3️⃣ Anxiety + autonomic response Indigestion + discomfort can trigger: • Vagal imbalance • Adrenaline surge • Palpitations • Sweating Cetirizine itself usually does NOT cause palpitations. Most likely cause:
Next Steps
✔ Start oral rehydration (ORS solution) ✔ Drink coconut water or electrolyte fluids ✔ Avoid kiwi and new foods for now ✔ Eat light diet (rice, curd, banana, khichdi) ✔ Monitor heart rate Seek urgent care if: • Heart rate >120 persistently • Chest pain • Breathlessness • Swelling of lips/throat • Severe weakness If palpitations persist beyond 24–48 hours → ECG may be required.
Health Tips
✔ Rest properly ✔ Avoid caffeine today ✔ Practice slow deep breathing ✔ Stay hydrated ✔ Do not Google symptoms repeatedly (increases anxiety loop) Right now this does not sound like a dangerous allergic reaction, but monitoring is important. If symptoms are continuing or recurring, I can guide you step-by-step to differentiate allergy, electrolyte issue, or cardiac rhythm concern. Booking an online consultation will allow proper assessment and reassurance with targeted advice.
