Open knee surgery after an accident
I had an open knee surgery after an accident with 40 sutures in 3 places in total. I had a surgery to repair the open knee laceration. I was given complete wound dressing from thigh to foot area with a pad kept behind the knee for support. Now after 20 days dressings have been removed and the doctor has recommended some straight leg raising physical therapy exercises..It has been 3 days since doing these exercises. The problem is now I cannot lift the leg from sleeping position neither can be move his leg when in standing position to keep a step ahead. The doctor here has advised to come back in a week for followup however. Meanwhile I am concerned about the leg whether I would be able to move or what is the problem causing for me unable to move, however, I am able to lift the leg in sitting position, Please advice me in this regard.

Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment knee is applied warm water followed by the immediate application of the knee with ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation. Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

It can be due to immobilisation for three weeks and slight scarring which prevents you from initiating the movement. Consult with a physiotherapist who can rule out any added neurological issues. Your physiotherapist can help in moving it in gravity eliminated position and slowly improving it to normal. Straight leg raising is totally against gravity and it's quite normal that you are unable to do it now. So there's no reason to panic. Consult with a physiotherapist who can help you best with your movement disorders.. hope the information was useful to you.
Next Steps
try the same movement in side lying position. you may be able to do it.
Health Tips
scarring of soft tissues can be prevented with exercises advised by your physiotherapist.
