As there is an injury, give some rest to your knee.
Cause of pain could be anything depending on the mode of injury like direct impact / twist injury / sports injury. If pain persists, get it evaluated by an orthopaedic surgeon. Might need an MRI to rule out injury to the inner structures of the knee.
