I'm severely depressed for over an year now (during pregnancy and post that too). I cry at the slightest provocation and have taken a few extreme steps in fit of anger. I can't focus on my career and am turning into a over possessive mom according to my husband. I am stuck in a very negative environment and I recently left it because I was suffocating and couldn't take it anymore. After a long time I got the courage to consult a psychiatrist. The doctor I consulted didn't even ask anything apart from what I told her of my situation and prescribed me antidepressants. I need recommendation of a capable counsellor who can get me back to normal. I can't risk opening up again to a doctor and feeling disheartened. I m willing to give it one last try, so please recommend someone who can genuinely help me. Thank you

It seems like your emotions are out of control and you're feeling very frustrated. You're at a point where you feel unable to work properly and feel like you're suffocating. After you gathered the courage to seek help, you were disappointed because you were only prescribed medication and didn't get the kind of help you needed.
It must be very frustrating for you and you might be feeling like no one has your back. I can understand what you must be going through right now. Therapy can help you understand your patterns and overcome them. I recommend you choose a therapist who:
1) You feel comfortable talking to.
2) Can understand you and comprehend what you're talking about.
3) Is empathetic.
4) Is well-trained and qualified to work with you.
The right therapist can help you overcome your issues. However, you might have a "trial and error" run before you find someone who may be suitable for you.

Hello!
Thank you for reaching out and considering this a safe space to express yourself.
Pregnancy can be very emotionally challenging and a transformative journey. It is not necessary that pregnancy should be a journey of happiness and feeling fulfilled. Weâre sorry that you went through such an emotionally harrowing journey of mental health as well as dealing with a professional who did not understand you.
Itâs commendable that you took the step to reach out to a mental health professional, however we understand how disraughting it would have been to not feel understood by them. There are a range of mental health professionals who specialise in different fields. Psychiatrists are doctors who are trained to provide medication and not therapies. Counsellors are professionals who are trained to provide you a safe space to explore your concerns, however they do not provide medication. Based on what you have shared with us, you would benefit from a counselling or clinical psychologist. They shall provide you the safe space to explore your experience and undertake this journey with you.
We would recommend you to please reach out to Heart It Out (https://heartitout.in) for the same.

Or nowadays you have online options also. After listening your problem and mental status examination, treatment plan could be tailor made.
You seem to have symptoms of severe depressive episode. Please continue the medications given by the psychiatrist. You may connect with me on practo Consult for mental status examination & further help. Cognitive behavioral therapy will be of great help.
