Need Help for Weight Loss and Constipati
I am a 34-year-old female suffering from chronic constipation with incomplete bowel emptying, bloating, and gas for the past 8 years since pregnancy. I have bowel movements daily, but I never feel completely emptied. Over the last year, my weight increased from 58 kg to 63 kg despite trying diet changes, home remedies, and Siddha treatment. I also spent a significant amount on treatments and abdominal and pelvic scans, which were normal. My recent blood tests showed HbA1c 5.8%, TSH 5.7 with normal T3 and T4, and low iron levels. Liver, kidney, cholesterol, and blood counts are normal. I cannot tolerate high-protein diets as they worsen my bloating and gas. Could my long-standing constipation be contributing to my difficulty losing weight? I would like to lose around 8 kg and would appreciate guidance on managing chronic constipation and achieving healthy weight loss.

Yes, your long-standing constipation and difficulty losing weight are closely connected. Your TSH (5.7) points to a sluggish thyroid that slows your metabolism and digestion, while your HbA1c (5.8%) indicates mild insulin resistance, making weight loss difficult Because your gut is too sensitive for standard high-protein diets, you need a highly customized, gut-first approach.
Next Steps
We highly recommend consulting with us for a personalized evaluation.  We can help you safely manage your thyroid and metabolic markers, optimize your low iron levels, and build a gentle, tailored nutrition plan that restores your digestion while helping you achieve healthy weight loss.

This is because of chronic imbalance in Vata Dosha (specifically Apana Vata), combined with a weakened metabolic fire (Agni) and the accumulation of metabolic toxins (Ama).Ayurveda strongly aligns with modern science here as your pregnancy 8 years ago as the initial triggering event that deeply disturbed vatta and Agni. When Agni is weak, your body cannot properly digest or metabolize food, regardless of how healthy or light your diet is. Instead of converting food into healthy tissue (Dhatus), a sluggish Agni converts food directly into excess Medas Dhatu (fat tissue), leading to your unexplained weight gain. And weak Agni cannot digest protein that's why you are not able to digest it. And your TSH is also mildly raised which can also slow your Agni power.
Next Steps
you have provided enough details but not that an ayurvedic doctor needs to give you proper treatment. I would like to recommend you to consult online so that I can explain thoroughly and give you a solution. Because ayurveda is not just treatment of the symptoms it is the treatment of the root cause which causes these symptoms.
Health Tips
You can have Hingwashtak Churna Dhatri Loha or Punarnadi Mandoor lavanabhaskar churna chitrakadi vatti and adopt the following habits Eat less and at the same time every day. chew your food more and don't drink water for 1hr before and after meals. Don't eat salads, cold food and processed food. Do excercise and yoga every day. Try to sit in a squat position for 15minutes every day. I would advise you to consult online as you have mildly raised TSH then I can tell you how you can control it by changing diet and adding ayurvedic medicines so that you maintain your Agni for overall health.

Namastey Your symptoms of chronic constipation, incomplete bowel evacuation, bloating, gas, and gradual weight gain are likely interconnected. While constipation itself does not directly cause significant fat gain, long-standing digestive dysfunction can contribute to abdominal distension, a feeling of heaviness, sluggish metabolism, reduced physical activity, and difficulty achieving weight loss despite sincere efforts. Your reports provide some important clues: HbA1c of 5.8% indicates a prediabetic tendency, which can make weight management more challenging. TSH of 5.7 with normal T3 and T4 suggests mild thyroid dysfunction (subclinical hypothyroid tendency), which may contribute to constipation, bloating, fatigue, and slower weight loss. Low iron levels can affect energy levels and overall well-being. Normal abdominal and pelvic scans are reassuring and suggest there is no major structural abnormality causing your symptoms. From an Ayurvedic perspective, an 8-year history of constipation and bloating following pregnancy often points toward a chronic digestive imbalance that requires correction at the root level rather than temporary symptom relief.
Next Steps
The priority should be to improve the quality of digestion and bowel evacuation rather than focusing only on rapid weight reduction. Observe: Whether you strain during bowel movements. Whether stools feel incomplete every day or only occasionally. Which foods worsen bloating and gas. Your meal timings, sleep schedule, and stress levels. Since high-protein diets aggravate your bloating, avoid forcing yourself to follow dietary plans that do not suit your digestion. Sustainable weight loss is usually achieved when digestion becomes more efficient and bowel function improves. As your symptoms have persisted for many years and have not responded satisfactorily to previous treatments, a detailed individualized evaluation would be beneficial. For personalized assessment, better guidance, and a holistic Ayurvedic treatment plan for chronic constipation, bloating, and healthy weight management, you may connect with us at 9 3 1 5 6 6 1 5 6 5.
Health Tips
Maintain regular meal timings and avoid skipping meals. Eat slowly, chew thoroughly, and prefer freshly prepared home-cooked food. Stay adequately hydrated throughout the day and include regular physical activity such as brisk walking, yoga, or stretching. Avoid very late dinners and try to maintain a consistent sleep schedule. Remember that a weight gain of 5 kg over a year is often reversible. In many patients, once digestion, bowel habits, sleep, and metabolic balance improve, gradual and sustainable weight loss follows naturally. Focus on long-term digestive health rather than extreme diets or short-term remedies, and you are more likely to achieve your goal of losing around 8 kg in a healthy and lasting manner. Thank you

Long-standing constipation can cause bloating and a feeling of heaviness, but by itself it is usually not the main cause of weight gain. Your mildly elevated TSH, prediabetes (HbA1c 5.8%) and low iron may also be contributing to difficulty losing weight. Since your symptoms started after pregnancy and have persisted despite treatment, a detailed evaluation is needed to identify the underlying cause. Ayurveda can support digestion, bowel regularity and metabolism with a personalized approach, along with appropriate diet and lifestyle changes. Please consult me so I can assess your condition and guide a safe, individualized treatment plan.
