soft bulge on the center of a one-year-old’s head when crying typically corresponds to a fontanelle, or "soft spot," which allows for brain growth and normally closes between 7 to 19 months. It is common for this area to appear slightly fuller or more prominent during crying, lying down, or straining due to temporary increases in internal pressure. However, a persistent bulge when the child is calm and upright, or one accompanied by fever, extreme drowsiness, or vomiting, may indicate serious underlying conditions like meningitis or fluid buildup

Usually this can happen due to prominence of the anterior fontanelle (‘soft spot’) while crying or straining and is commonly seen in otherwise healthy babies. Since your child is active and achieving milestones, it is less likely to be serious. The soft spot normally gradually closes with age.

However, if the bulge remains even when the child is calm, becomes tense, or if there is vomiting, fever, excessive sleepiness, seizures, poor feeding, or delayed milestones, then pediatric examination is advised.
