This is most likely lactose intolerance or milk allergy–related acidity/gas causing bloating and breathlessness. Try this: Avoid milk for 1–2 weeks → see if symptoms stop. If you need to take milk: Tab. Lactase enzyme (e.g., Lactaid, Lactase drops) before drinking milk – helps digestion. If acidity/bloating occurs: Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily (before breakfast, 5 days) or Simethicone 80 mg after food for gas relief.

It is very likely that you are experiencing lactose intolerance or milk-related acidity, both of which can cause symptoms like shortness of breath, chest discomfort, weakness or a heavy feeling soon after drinking milk. This does not mean there is a problem with your lungs or heart -it is a reaction from your digestive system. Why it happens: 1. If your body does not break down lactose properly, it produces excess gas, bloating and pressure under the diaphragm. 2. This pressure can temporarily make breathing feel difficult and create a feeling of weakness or discomfort. 3. Some people also get reflux after milk, which can cause the same sensation.
Next Steps
• Stop plain milk for a few days and see if symptoms disappear. • You can switch to – lactose free milk, – curd, – buttermilk, – paneer. These are easier to digest. • If you want to continue milk, take lactase enzyme tablet (like Lactase/Laczyme) just before drinking milk. • If acidity is also present, take Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before breakfast for 5–7 days. • Eat smaller, lighter meals and avoid lying down immediately after drinking milk.
Health Tips
If you have breathlessness even when not drinking milk, chest pain while exertion, fever or wheezing — in that case further evaluation is needed.
