Mild disc dehydration seen at L4-L5-S1
Hello Doctor, My mother is suffering from right leg and foot pain from 3-4 month , However on some doctors suggestions we have done MRI SCAN on ls back and found the below L4-L5  disc  shows  left  paracentral  /foraminal  annular  tear  and    diffuse  disc  bulge But my Question is she has got disk bulge at left side of the lower back but she has got right side leg and foot pain how is that possible? . We have shown to many doctors but not able to figure it out what is the exact reason, some say this pain is not related to slip disc . We have done all other tests like HSR,ESR,CRP,ANTI-CPP, HLAB27, vitamin-D. In of the above test seems normal. Could you  please tell what might be the exact reason for the leg and foot pain. Thanks Nitesh

The pain is due to the stiffness and weakness of her calf muscles. She may be in the habit of using that leg to sit cross legged or putting more weight on it while standing for all these years. This creates an inequality between both legs and the muscles of this leg feel overworked for the same task that both the legs are exposed to.
Next Steps
sitting ergonomically and standing such that weight distribution is uniform

Yes it can be due to the stretch of the opposite nerve. But is unusual . Needs clinical examination.

Hi I am Dr Das Best thing would be we should do a NCV /EMG test to localise the origin of Pain ...a test for nerve status of lower lim ... I need to see the film so that I can see the amount of nerve root compression If these symptoms can be controlled by medication then why to go for surgery Ask your mother not to bend forward Do the test and show your Doc

Hello Practo user, Nowadays most of the patients and doctors come to conclusions with reports unfortunately....in your case the MRI reports have biased  the clinical judgement of doctors. Ideally a good conversation with the patient, medical history, and a thorough clinical examination is going to give a correct diagnosis. Any other investigations needed to confirm the diagnosis should be done accordingly.
Next Steps
Meet a Orthopaedic surgeon.
Health Tips
let him examine your mother and you can discuss the MRI REPORTS with him later.
