Metformin During Pregnancy
Hello Sir/ Madam, My wife has a history of PCOS (AMH 10 ). She also had history of recurrent misscariage 4 times (6-7 week). Now she is pregnant again with 17 week. She taking Metformin SR 500 2 times / day. Is metformin safe during whole pregnancy? . Cause some doctor advice us to stop metformin & start insulin.

Aim for fasting blood sugar below 95 and two-hour post-meal blood sugar below 120. Insulin is the first and safest drug in pregnancy, followed by metformin. If glycemic targets aren't met with metformin, start insulin.

Hi., I can understand your concern. As u said, metformin is safer in pregnancy. But it may cause gastric discomfort in few patients, so it's better to plan for insulin. Also with insulin, we can adjust the dose easily based on sugar levels. Get an opinion from ur OG doctor too.
