Hi Doctor,
My son has been having high fevers around 102 and 103 and we started giving him Meftal-P Suspension (Mefenamic Acid Suspension) but after 3 hours the fever is at 101. We were told to alternate between Meftal and Crocin, how many hours do we need to wait after giving Meftal?
Can you also confirm if these dosages are correct.
Age: 6 years
Weight: 27 kgs
Meftal-P Suspension (Mefenamic Acid Suspension) - 10 mL every 6 hours
Crocin 240 Suspension DS (Paracetamol Paediatric Oral Suspension I.P. 240 mg/5 mL) - 7.5 mL every 6 hours

Hello
Crocin suspension 7.5-8 mL every 6 holy and meftal syrup 10 mL can be given every 8 hrly and should be used on SOS if temp is more than 102F .you need to have a gap of Atleast 4-5 hrs between the two medications .if there is persistent fever for more than 3-4 days consult your paediatrician for further tests and medications.

Hello,
If the fever has been for no more than 3 days, no need to use both the medications. Use PCM/ Crocin syrup that you have, can give 8mL SOS (whenever fever >100F) upto maximum of 4 times a day with minimum gap of 6hrs, if after giving the medication fever doesn't starts coming down in next 2-3 hrs you can cold sponge the whole body of the child except for the chest area, that would suffice at the moment.
Next Steps
Keep looking for any danger signs like vomiting, letharginess, abnormal body movement or if the fever is for more than 3 days consult individually to a doctor and get some investigations done.
