you need physical examination to rule out any fracture or any other internal injury. Pain in the rib cage after a fall can range from a muscle bruise to a fracture . You must get a Tetanus (TT) shot if you haven't had one in the last 5 years.
Next Steps
Wash your hands first. Gently rinse the leg cut and other abrasions with lukewarm water or a mild antiseptic solution. Avoid harsh scrubbing. Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment like Neosporin.Use ice pack for 20 minutes during the first 48 hours to reduce swelling. pain relievers like acetaminophen only if your liver is ok. Try sleeping in a semi upright position with extra pillows to make breathing more comfortable.
Health Tips
If the pain is intense or you felt a crack during the fall, an X-ray or CT scan may be needed to rule out a displaced fracture.

Hello, based on your history and the image, you have a superficial abrasion (road rash). While the skin injury is visible, the rib cage pain requires careful monitoring to rule out a minor fracture or internal bruising."
1. Wound Management (Knee/Hands/Abdomen):
Cleaning: Gently clean the area with normal saline or lukewarm water to remove any road grit. Avoid harsh scrubbing.
Dressing: Apply a thin layer of an antibiotic ointment (e.g., Mupirocin or Neosporin) and cover it with a non-stick sterile dressing (like Jelonet) to keep the wound moist for faster healing.
Tetanus: Ensure your Tetanus Toxoid (TT) shot is up to date (within the last 5 years).
2. Rib Cage Pain Management:
Deep Breathing: Take 10 deep breaths every hour. It may hurt slightly, but this is crucial to prevent lung congestion (atelectasis) following blunt chest trauma.
Rest: Avoid heavy lifting or twisting movements for the next 7–10 days.
3. Seek Immediate Physical Consultation If:
The rib pain makes it very difficult to take a deep breath.
You develop a fever or see pus/increasing redness around the leg wound.
You experience any shortness of breath or persistent cough.
Hello,
I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician (Ex Govt Medical Officer at RML Hospital, New Delhi), and your case has been allotted to me.
Thank you for sharing the image. I understand this must be painful.
What I see from the image
⢠A superficial abrasion (road rash) over the knee
⢠One raw red exposed area
⢠Surrounding bruising and mild swelling
ð This looks like a soft tissue injury with skin abrasion, not a deep cut, which is reassuring.
What you should do now
Wound care (most important)
⢠Wash gently with clean water or saline
⢠Apply povidone iodine or chlorhexidine
⢠Cover with a non sticking sterile dressing
⢠Change dressing once daily
⢠Do not let dirt or sweat accumulate
Pain and swelling
⢠Apply ice pack for 24 hours then warm compress
⢠Keep leg elevated when resting
⢠Avoid excessive walking or bending
Medicines
⢠Paracetamol for pain
⢠Antibiotic ointment can be applied locally
(Systemic antibiotics only if signs of infection)
Very important
ð Check tetanus status
⢠If not taken in last 5 years, take TT injection
When to consult a doctor urgently
⢠Increasing redness, swelling, or pus
⢠Fever
⢠Severe pain or difficulty walking
⢠Blackening of skin or delayed healing
Healing time
⢠Usually heals in 7 to 10 days
⢠May leave temporary dark mark which fades gradually
This is a common injury and fully recoverable with proper care. No signs of deep damage from the image.
