Lactulose for constipation?
Since last two days, I'm having constipation due to which stools are too hard so I'm not able to freshen up. Like too little with quite some pressure. I am hydrating and walking. I bought Looz syrup which is Lactulose, it was given to one of my relatives for constipation. How much dosage should I take, like how much and when and for how long? I'm 25 years old, female. Also due to constipation I'm feeling bloated with a warm moving feeling inside my stomach. Or should I consult a doctor first, it's the third day.

Your acute constipation (hard stools, straining, and bloating over the last 2–3 days) is very common and usually responds well to a gentle osmotic laxative like Lactulose (Looz). The "warm moving feeling" is simply active peristalsis as your intestines attempt to propel trapped gas and hard fecal matter past the rectosigmoid area. While Lactulose is safe and non-habit-forming, using the correct initial dosage and adequate water is essential to prevent excess cramping.
Next Steps
A standard adult starting dose of Lactulose (Looz) is typically 15 ml once daily, preferably taken at bedtime with a full glass of lukewarm water. Continue with high dietary fiber (papaya, oats, vegetables), brisk walking, and at least 2.5 to 3 liters of water across the day to allow the syrup to soften the stool effectively. Please book an online consultation with me. if you do not pass, a comfortable stool within 24 to 48 hours or if abdominal discomfort worsens.
Health Tips
Do not take Lactulose for more than 3 to 5 days consecutively without medical advice, as overreliance can mask underlying issues or cause loose stools. Avoid straining forcefully on the toilet, as this can provoke acute anal fissures or painful external hemorrhoids. Seek immediate evaluation if you develop severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, inability to pass flatus (gas), or rectal bleeding.

Lactulose can help, but please do not take a relative’s medicine without checking the bottle strength and your medical history. In most adults it is started at 15–30 mL once daily and adjusted to one soft stool daily; excess can cause gas, cramps or diarrhoea. Drink adequate water, add fibre and walk regularly. For personalised advice, book a Practo consult or visit Synergy Multispeciality Hospital, Miraj.
Next Steps
Seek urgent care for severe or increasing abdominal pain, vomiting, marked swelling, blood in stool, or inability to pass gas.

Three days of hard, difficult stools with bloating is uncomfortable but usually not an emergency, and hydration plus walking are the right instincts.
Health Tips
For the exact dose and duration, please check with a doctor or pharmacist since it depends on your weight and response. If things don't improve by day 4 or 5, see a doctor instead of increasing the dose yourself.
