Is long term running safe for the knees?
I want to know if running everyday will cause the cushion in the knee to wear out by the time I'm old. This is a concern because my mom's recent knee xray shows that her bones are slightly touching(orthopedic said it was arthritis).

No, long term running wont affect your knee ligaments if u do it right. Use good running shoes, avoid running on hard surfaces like tar road, do stretching before running, if possible take time to strengthen your leg and thigh muscles, take weekly breaks. Running really helps to keep your heart and lungs healthy. Keep running.
