Hello,
My concern is regarding sprain in ankle.
It has been 5 days I am suffering from ankle sprain.Initially I had applied ice which reduced my swelling in ankle. Also, pain got reduced .But, now while walking or getting down from stairs I m feeling a little pain and could not walk properly.I had also done x-ray,however the report was normal.I consulted a doctor as it is getting difficult to come to office.I am now suggested to do a light weight plaster for 15 days and take some medicines. My question is - do in need to get such plaster or can it be cured by just wrapping up crepe bandage and taking medicines.?Also, how long it will take to get cured completely.?
Thanks in advance.

Ideally a ligament sprain treatment is plaster for the first 2 weeks following which you need to be on an ankle binder and after 3 weeks of ankle binder need to start on ankle exercises.
Xray will not show ligament injuries. Ligament sprains are assessed clinically. Xray is done to rule out fracture thats all..You definitely need to be on a plaster to immobilize the joint following which you need to be on an ankle binder and then exercise.
You should be back to all sports by 6 weeks to 8 weeks.. don't neglect the Injury
