Hello sir.. yes CBCT is necessary to know the exact position of tooth root in relation with the nerve s it is very close to nerve..CBCT gives three dimensional view while the x-ray provides only 2 dimensional view.... impacted wisdom teeth needs to be removed surgically..that is the only treatment option

For wisdom tooth pain tooth removal is the only best choice. Your dentist had done x ray and after checking x ray he or she has suggested cbct. I also do same thing in my practice, if x ray shows that you're tooth is near to nerve. it's better to check three dimensional position of this wisdom tooth related to nerve. This helps dentist to remove your tooth secularly . It's best decision to take cbct, if x ray isn't giving needed information

Wisdom tooth pain is not an issue unusual thing, n mostly permanent solution is removal of tooth if the pain is frequent n sharp. CBCT is doctor’s personal choice, may be the position of the tooth is close to nerve in X-ray, that’s why doctor has asked for a CBCT.

If your wisdom tooth causes "major pain" as you have mentioned, surgical extraction of the tooth would be the best solution. Although extractions are done without CBCT as well, but if the surgeon has asked for a cbct, there is no harm in getting it done. It will only help the doctors prepare well for your surgery.
