I have no control over my emotions
I've been told by my father and my boyfriend repeatedly that I have no control over my emotions and I'm too emotional, I overreact, I overthink, and over exaggerate everything and I need to know how to deal with it better.

Being told repeatedly that you’re “too emotional” can make you doubt yourself, but emotional intensity does not mean something is wrong with you. It usually means: You feel things deeply You react quickly when hurt or stressed You may not yet have the right tools to regulate emotions under pressure This is not a character flaw — it’s a skill gap, and emotional regulation is a skill that can be learned. Many sensitive or empathetic people face this, especially in relationships where communication styles differ.
Next Steps
Start therapy focused on emotional regulation, overthinking patterns, and communication skills. • Identify triggers — most “overreactions” happen when someone feels unheard, invalidated, or overwhelmed.
Health Tips
You’re not “too emotional” — you simply need the right emotional tools, and those can be learned. Therapy and small daily practices can bring significant change. If you want, I can also help you create: • a personalised emotional regulation plan.

Hi Therapy helps you build that pause identifying triggers, reframing thoughts, and learning calmer ways to communicate so that you’re understood instead of judged. You don’t have to carry the label of “overreacting.” With consistent work, the same emotional intensity can become a strength rather than a weakness. Take therapy.
