At 3 months post Bankart repair, 130° of shoulder elevation is generally a good stage of recovery. Regaining full 180° range can take a few more weeks to months depending on healing, shoulder mobility, strength, and rehabilitation progression.
Next Steps
External rotation and overhead movement should be advanced carefully with appropriate mobility, rotator cuff, and scapular strengthening exercises based on your current assessment.
Health Tips
A detailed evaluation of your range, strength, and movement pattern would help determine what is limiting your recovery and guide the most effective exercise progression

⚠️ Disclaimer This advice is based on the information provided and is for educational purposes only. It does not replace a physical examination or medical diagnosis. At 3 months after Bankart (labrum) repair, lifting your arm to 130° is generally a good stage of recovery. Most patients continue gaining movement over the next 6–12 weeks, so reaching near 180° overhead often takes a little more time and regular rehab.
Next Steps
For detailed Assessment and treatment plan in order to gain maximum range of your shoulder joint and strength of your shoulder muscles as well , Book your session with us- ✅ Continue physiotherapy regularly ✅ Work on shoulder mobility daily ✅ Don’t force painful movements ✅ Avoid aggressive or strenuous work ✅Avoid lifting heavy weight
Health Tips
Best External Rotation Exercises 1️⃣ Pendulum Swings – Let the arm hang and make small circles. 2️⃣ Stick-Assisted External Rotation – Use a stick to gently rotate the operated arm outward. 3️⃣ Side-Lying External Rotation – Lie on your side and slowly rotate the forearm upward. 4️⃣ Resistance Band External Rotation – Elbow by your side, rotate the arm outward against a light band. ⭐ Consistency beats intensity. Small daily improvements in motion and strength usually lead to full recovery faster than pushing too hard.

Progressing from 130° to full vertical elevation (180°) takes time, patience, and consistent stretching. It is entirely normal for this final range to take anywhere from 3 to 5 months post-surgery to safely achieve, as deep capsular tightness must safely yield.
Next Steps
Resisted External Rotation (Band): Anchor a resistance band at elbow height. Stand sideways to the anchor, holding the band with your surgical arm (the arm furthest from the anchor). Keeping your elbow tucked tightly to your side, pull the band outward away from your stomach. Control the return. 2 Child’s Pose Stretch: Kneel on the floor or sit back on your heels in front of a table. Place both hands on the table and gently lower your chest toward the floor, letting your shoulders stretch overhead.
Health Tips
Always use your unaffected arm to power the movement during stretches so your healing shoulder tissue isn't forced to contract prematurelyFor structured recovery tips and personalized guidance to safely regain your full 180° mobility, you can consult me online.

As suggested earlier it can take time. However with this surgery you can have restricted external rotation on a long term basis
