The worrying part is that 4 days back haemoglobin was 12.8 but today's test it decreased to 11.7

Thank you for sharing your concern. A drop in hemoglobin from 12.8 to 11.7 g/dL over 4 days can be worrying, but such minor fluctuations can also occur due to factors like hydration status, lab variability, recent illness, or sampling differences. However, since you're male, both 12.8 and 11.7 are below the normal range (13.5â17.5 g/dL) and do require evaluation.
Possible Causes:
Iron deficiency anemia (most common)
Chronic blood loss (e.g., piles, ulcers)
Nutritional deficiencies (B12, folate)
Chronic illness or inflammation
What to do next:
Iron studies (Serum Iron, Ferritin, TIBC)
Vitamin B12 & Folate levels
Stool occult blood test (if GI bleeding is suspected)
Repeat CBC after 1 week for trend
A sudden significant drop (e.g., >2 g/dL) would be more concerning for bleeding or hemolysis, but in your case, this is a mild drop and should be monitored with repeat testing.
Please consult a physician to evaluate further and start treatment if needed.

Why did you get Hamoglobim tested and that too twice? Do you have weakness, is there weight loss, are there reddish spots on limbs? Are stools black and tarry? Are you on some regular medicine like aspirin?
Answer to above questions would help to diagnose your condition and manage it.
Next Steps
Get a control Haemoglobin done from some other lab and thyroid function tests as well.
Hi,
A drop in your hemoglobin needs to be worked up immediately. If you have noted bleeding from anywhere, black coloured stools or had a recent injury with blood loss it could explain the fall in hemoglobin
Very unusually, your hemoglobin can drop if you have consumed large amounts of water after a period of dehydration.
I would also like to know why you got it checked - did you feel weak, are you having a fever ( there is a typhidot report :) or was it routine
Do consult if required
May be any internal bleeding watch for black stool, or external bleeding like pil, nasal bleed6 as seen in summer.
Consult a MD physician to find out the reason.
