H pylori infection
I was diagnosed with H. pylori infection and gastritis last year and completed a two-week course of antibiotics. However, a few months later, I continued to experience gastritis symptoms. After consulting my doctor, I underwent an endoscopy and a urea breath test, both of which were negative for H. pylori. I also took a GI map test from a laboratory in Europe, which shows elevated levels of H. pylori. I’ve attached a photo of the results. Should I trust these GI map findings and focus on eliminating H. pylori again, or should I concentrate on healing the gastritis instead?

Sometimes people have to take multiple courses of antibiotics to eradicate h pylori resulting in gut dysfunctioning at various levels due to antibiotics and now you don't know what are you suffering from bcz you symptoms continue to linger with feelings of unwell. My suggestion would be to look at your health holistically not in-silo for sustainable healing and health.

Please consult with a Gastroenterologist. I don't think it will be possible to eliminate H pylori completely by Medical management. You may consult with some Doctor in Europe .

Dear Patient, It’s understandable that you’re feeling uncertain about how to proceed with these mixed test results. The endoscopy and urea breath test are considered highly reliable for detecting active H. pylori infections, especially after treatment. Since both tests came back negative, it's a strong indicator that H. pylori was likely eradicated. The urea breath test is highly sensitive and specific, and it directly detects active infection in the stomach lining. Negative results here suggest you no longer have an active H. pylori infection in your stomach. The GI MAP stool test is a different type of test that can detect DNA fragments of H. pylori in stool. While elevated levels of H. pylori DNA in the stool may indicate some remnants, it doesn't necessarily reflect an active infection in the stomach, especially when virulence factors are negative. The lack of virulence factors suggests that even if some H. pylori is present in your digestive tract, it is unlikely to be causing active infection or significant harm at this point. It's possible that the DNA detected represents dead bacterial remnants, rather than a living, active infection. It's possible your ongoing symptoms are due to residual inflammation or other factors rather than an active H. pylori infection. Post-treatment gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) can persist even after the bacteria is eradicated. It can take time for the stomach lining to fully heal, especially if there was significant irritation or ulceration. Keep track of your symptoms. If they persist or worsen, it may be worth discussing additional diagnostic options a doctor, such as checking for other causes of gastritis (e.g., non-H. pylori-related dyspepsia, food intolerances, or acid reflux). You’re already on the right track by staying in touch with your doctor. Continue to focus on symptom management through diet, medications (if prescribed), and lifestyle changes. Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns
Next Steps
Consult a doctor for a prescription of Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) or H2 blockers to reduce stomach acid and promote healing.. stress can aggravate gastritis symptoms, incorporating relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga, or mindfulness can help reduce symptom severity. Probiotics can help restore a healthy balance in the gut, especially after taking antibiotics.
Health Tips
Avoid spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, and fatty or fried foods. Opt for smaller, more frequent meals that are easy to digest.

The patient presents with a history of H. pylori infection and gastritis. Despite completing a course of antibiotics, the patient continues to experience gastritis symptoms. Subsequent endoscopy and urea breath test were negative for H. pylori. However, a GI map test showed elevated levels of H. pylori. The patient is unsure whether to trust the GI map findings and focus on eliminating H. pylori again or concentrate on healing the gastritis instead. As a specialist doctor, I would advise the patient to consider the following: * The accuracy of the GI map test: While GI map tests can be helpful in detecting H. pylori, they may not always be as accurate as traditional methods like endoscopy and urea breath test. It's important to discuss the reliability of the specific GI map test used with the healthcare provider. * The possibility of other factors contributing to gastritis: Gastritis can be caused by various factors, including stress, diet, medications, and autoimmune conditions. It's important to consider these possibilities and rule out other potential causes. * The potential benefits and risks of retreatment for H. pylori: Retreatment for H. pylori may be effective in some cases, but it can also have potential side effects. The decision to pursue retreatment should be made carefully, weighing the potential benefits against the risks. In conclusion, I recommend that the patient consult with a gastroenterologist to discuss their specific case and determine the most appropriate course of action. A thorough evaluation, including a review of the GI map test results and consideration of other potential factors, can help determine the best approach to managing the patient's gastritis symptoms.
