Guide Regarding Rabies Vaccination
I noticed such scratch on my finger after a travel. Does this look like a scratch from a dog. Though I do not remember coming across such encounter, still I am wondering if I should get myself vaccinated for rabies. Sharing the progress of the scratch. Kindly Guide and Help

Scratch appears to be superficial, unlikely to be related to dog.You don't need any ARV vaccine

If it's dog bite or scratch then you know it very well. If there is history of dogs encounter then you should go for post exposure prophylaxis.

No need to take anti rabies vaccine if you don't have history of dog bite ( but if you remember about bite then you should )

It doesn't look like dog bite but if you can let us know that whether there was dogs or any other pets around your trip than you should take rabies vaccine .
Was there bleeding around the scratch ?
If not then there is no need as such of rabies vaccine but you should clean it thoroughly with soap and water

Based on your description and absence of any remembered dog contact, this does NOT look like a rabies-risk exposure. Rabies transmission requires a clear event: a bite, scratch with bleeding, or saliva entering a fresh open wound or mucosa from a rabid animal.
A scratch noticed after travel, without pain at the time, no bleeding, and no animal encounter, is far more likely due to minor trauma (nail, zipper, surface friction, insect, dry skin) rather than a dog scratch. Rabies does not occur silently or unknowingly in this manner.
Next Steps
1. Do NOT start rabies vaccination based on this alone.
2. Clean the area with soap and water; apply a simple antiseptic if skin is broken.
3. Observe the wound for normal healing over 5–7 days.
4. Seek medical review only if:
• You clearly recall an animal scratch/bite
• There was bleeding
• The wound worsens (pus, spreading redness, fever)

This doesn’t look like an animal bite .
Considering no such exposure you need not to worry about rabies .
This is a superficial scratch, not penetrating deeper skin layers .
Next Steps
Wash it under running tap water and leave it open .
Do not peel off skin from it .
It will heal on its own

From the photo, this is a superficial linear abrasion and there is no definite history of an animal bite/scratch or saliva exposure.
As per rabies PEP guidelines, vaccination is NOT indicated in the absence of a proven animal exposure.
Next Steps
Local wound care only (wash with soap & water, apply mupirocin/fusidic acid for 3 days).
Also, Trei-TT / Td booster only if not taken in last 5 years.

The scratch as such doesn’t look that deep and if you went on a hike it mite probably be a cut from some plant thorns.

Better if you go for vaccination schedule immediately. Because you dont know anything about scratch and previous vaccination and rabies is 100 percent fatal disease so why we take risk better you go for vaccination.

Based on just look at scratch it is difficult to tell whether it is from dog or any other animal . First kindly try to remember that in your travel history whether you came across any animal / any encounter with dogs ( even friendly / playful act) , if so then please try to take an appointment with physician and can enquire about further issues .

How many days since the scratch? If it's been long, and you have no symptoms then not to worry as there is no skin barrier breakage. But it's better to take the vaccine as Rabies has an incubation period of weeks to months.
