My mother went through a spine surgery. After 1 month a transparent liquid started to leak from her back and resulted in meningitis. Post recovery the fluid continued to leak and now she is getting jerks in hand and head. After MRI it was confirmed that 15 mm thick hypodense subdural collection on left side. Doctors are suggesting if surgery of back and brain both. Are these both surgeries life threatening?

CSF leak is a known complication of spine surgery secondary to incidental dural tear. Treatment includes primary repair or shunt procedure. Both are standard treatments. Need antibiotic coverage for meningitis.
