Hello doc , I am a female 36 years old. I often feel very nervous when I travel afraid of happening something to me. Usually more in the car or any enclosed space. While traveling I feel a lot and think continuously about it instead of diverting my thoughts. It leads to sleepless nights sometimes. I often feel sensations in the body. I don't understand what is this happening to me. I used to travel before but nothing happened. But now from few time ago I am feeling like this so I avoid traveling and going out because of this fear that something will happen to me.How do I get rid of this problem. I fear sometimes that I will get a heartattack or sometimes the outside traffic noice also threatens me.

I want to acknowledge how much courage it takes to voice these struggles. Often, we treat mental health as a matter of 'willpower,' but as a psychiatrist, I can tell you that what you are experiencing has a real biological and neurological basis.
Your brain, like any other organ, can sometimes struggle to maintain balance under stress. Seeking treatment isn't a sign of failure; it’s a proactive medical decision to regain your quality of life. We can work together to understand the 'why' behind these feelings and find a structured path back to your baseline. You don't have to navigate this alone.

Indeed you are having anxiety issues. problems of anxiety you suffered earlier related to travel and fear of closed place, I think that are not limited to travel or closed place now, they are troubling you at home also and this is hampering your personal life. you definitely need help.
you have options like therapy or medicines or a combination of both.
yes definitely you can come out of this. All you need is the right path.
Hey thanks for reaching out
What you are describing sounds very much like panic attacks with anticipatory anxiety, especially triggered in enclosed spaces or while travelling. The body sensations, fear of heart attack, hyperfocus on traffic noise, and sleeplessness are classic anxiety responses where your nervous system goes into threat mode even when you are safe. Because the sensations feel real and intense, your mind starts scanning for danger, which increases the fear further. Avoiding travel may give temporary relief, but it actually strengthens the fear cycle over time.
This is treatable with structured therapy focusing on panic psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring of catastrophic thoughts like heart attack fears, and gradual exposure to travelling again so your brain relearns safety. You are not “going crazy” and this is not a sign of weakness. Your system has become overprotective, not damaged. With the right approach, you can travel calmly again. Take therapy. Glad you reached out. The symptoms you explained seem to be because of anxiety.A proper consult will help you understand from where this fear is rooting from and how to tackle this. Medications will help you face this problem. Kindly consult a psychiatrist.
