Fear of heart
Whenever I have to travel somewhere, then I feel scared of my heart. Actually I have a three year old history of heart related chest pain which resemble angina. Multiple tests have confirmed that my heart is absolutely perfect. whenever I go for travel, then I am scared of getting chest pain or collapsing due to heart attack. I am taking etizolam for my anxiety, but I don't think it is working at all. Please suggest me what to do?

Health-related anxities are common. However if such anxities become huge and unmanageable, you need to seek professional help, which you seem to have done. In your case, the larger issue seems to be the fact that the medicine (etizolam) in its present dosage is not reducing your anxiety in a perceivable way. On this, I feel, you should get back to your doctor (who, I presume, is a psychiatrist) and seek either a dose adjustment or a fresh prescription. If these are not possible, please consult another psychiatrist and seek help. Once you start feeling better, please visit a psychologist and take up a few sessions of counselling for illness anxiety.

Certainly, here's a more detailed Solutions on how hypnotherapy and CBT can be used to address your anxiety related to travel and heart concerns: Hypnotherapy: Hypnotherapy can be a valuable tool in managing your anxiety and fear associated with travel and heart-related concerns. A qualified hypnotherapist can guide you through the following steps: Relaxation Techniques: Hypnotherapy often starts with relaxation techniques to calm your mind and body. This can help alleviate anxiety and create a receptive state for the therapy. Identifying Triggers: Your hypnotherapist will work with you to identify specific triggers and thought patterns that lead to your anxiety. In your case, the fear of chest pain or heart attacks during travel. Reframing Thoughts: Hypnotherapy can help reframe these negative thought patterns and replace them with positive, empowering beliefs. For instance, changing the perception of travel from a source of fear to an opportunity for personal growth and adventure. Visualization: Through guided imagery, you can practice successful, anxiety-free travel experiences in your mind. This helps your subconscious mind become more comfortable with the idea of traveling without fear. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is another powerful approach to address your anxiety. A CBT therapist will work with you as follows: Identifying Negative Thoughts: CBT begins by identifying your irrational fears and thoughts about travel and heart issues. You will learn to recognize the cognitive distortions that contribute to your anxiety. Challenge and Restructure: Once identified, these negative thoughts are challenged and restructured. For example, if you fear a heart attack during travel, you'll learn to assess the evidence for and against this fear and create a more balanced perspective. Coping Strategies: CBT equips you with practical coping strategies to manage anxiety during your travels. These may include relaxation techniques, mindfulness exercises, and cognitive restructuring. Gradual Exposure: With the guidance of your therapist, you may gradually expose yourself to travel-related situations that trigger anxiety, desensitizing yourself to these fears. Remember, both hypnotherapy and CBT are effective when conducted by qualified professionals who can tailor the therapy to your unique needs. Additionally, consider discussing your current medication (etizolam) with a healthcare provider, as it might be necessary to adjust or explore alternative treatments for your anxiety.

Sure, let me simplify it. Medication can help ease anxiety symptoms, like fear and chest pain during travel. But sometimes, these fears are rooted in deeper emotional issues, like past experiences. Medication doesn't fix those emotional problems; it's like a band-aid. That's where talking to a therapist comes in. They're like emotional problem-solvers. They can help you figure out why you're so anxious about traveling and teach you how to manage those feelings. It's like getting to the root of the issue rather than just treating the symptoms. Sometimes, a combination of medication and therapy is the best approach. The medication helps you feel better in the short term, and therapy helps you work through the emotional stuff for long-term relief.

Hi... In such cases it is always preferred to have all tests done under the consultation of a Cardiologist. Once the doctor confirms that everything is perfectly normal with one's heart than we can attribute these symptoms to mental health factors. Having said that, I believe you are suffering from severe health anxiety or hypochondria, which has become increasingly common post pandemic. The treatment mainly involve psychotherapy and in severe cases, medications (prescribed by a Psychiatrist) as well. Based on what you have shared, I believe your cause of anxiety is more psychosocial. It may be financial, job related, uncertain future, relationship, family, etc. Since you are an aviation professional, I can understand the frequency and necessity of your flying may be high, even if you are in the ground duties. Also, it may be difficult for you to share it with your work group very openly as flying is considered a preferred mode of commutation these days. Remember, weekly sessions are a must for you to recover from this condition. Avoid taking a short term/quick fix approach to treatment.
Next Steps
Consult a Psychologist. CBT along with Lifestyle Changes and Interpersonal Guidance and Counselling is required.

Hi. The chest pain and discomfort in the heart you are feeling is because of anxiety. I don’t think there is any medical issue as you have got everything checked and cleared. The symptoms you’re describing are because of anxiety, and you might have travel anxiety since you have mentioned it triggers when you travel or go somewhere. You can consult and psychiatrist or neurologist if you still think it can have an underlying cause (which I don’t think you would have) and mention to them the medication you already are on. Another thing that may really help Is counselling. Anxiety that leads to chest pain can really make a person physically and mentally exhausted. There are certain things you can do to reduce it like practice yoga, breathing exercises/techniques (will really put both your body and mind at work and help reduce the anxiety). You have to practice these things consistently, meditation can also help. There are many ways through which your situation can be helped, I’m happy to help you. Let me know if you need.

Counselling.
