When running or walking downwards I experience extreme pain in the "vastus lateralis" muscle, I also experience pains similar to "jumpers knee." I have been to the doctor, he told me that it "might" be the meniscus, but that wouldn't explain the muscle pain. I'm currently taking Naproxen with no effect.
I tried running again a couple of days ago, It went fine until i felt a small "poke" inside my knee, then the muscle started hurting again.
