Dual Marker Positive And NIPT "Low Risk"
Hello doctors, My wife's age is 40 now and we have an 8  year old (born in 2016)  healthy and happy  baby, When this baby was born, my wife's age was 32. After 5 years, at the age of 37 years, my wife got pregnant and our doctor did dual marker screening and NIPT tests. Both tests were positive for down syndrome. So we decided not to continue pregnency. We terminate that. After 2 years, at the age of 39 years, my wife got pregnant and our doctor did screening, this time we did not do NIPT test. Dual Marker screening test was positive for down syndrome. So we decided not to continue pregnency. We terminate that. Now After 1 years, at the age of 40 years, my wife got pregnant and our doctor did dual marker screening, and dual marker screening  was  positive for down syndrome. And our doctor asked us to do  NIPT test. NIPT is negative showing "low risk" in every section. So we are we not able to understand what to do? So doctors kindly help us.

First trimester test is 90% conclusive, NIPT is 99% conclusive, but both are screening tests and are not diagnostic. We advise invasive diagnostic tests like amniocentesis only if nipt is also positive.

NIPT is a better test than dual marker, which is more correct . But both are screening tests . It's better you go for a confirmatory test called amniocentesis
