My wife is 13 week pregnant. In NT scan, Nuchal fold was found to be 2.30mm. Doctor suggested DUAL MARKER test to check baby health. Test results says " Screening test has a probability of 1:122 for Down's Syndrome. Screening Test is positive"
Trisomy 21 is 1:122
Trisomy 18 is 1:1759
Trisomy 13 is 1:1593
Nasal bone is about 1.97mms
Doctor has suggested "Amniocentesis" for further investigation.
Please advice. Does all these means there is definite chance of Down Syndrome or this is just a possibility. Doc says since Nasal bone formation is good, probably baby will also be fine but since DUAL MARKER result says high risk hence we have to do Amniocentesis.

This test just gives you probability .
She is in high risk category .
If you want confirmation then amniocentesis is the option otherwise you can go for NIPT test which is 99percentage sure .

Hello there,
The interpretation of your report is as follows
Out of 122 women with similar factors, 121 will have normal baby
Only 1 will have chnc of down's baby.
Same goes way for trisomy 18/13 ratio.
So cut off being 1:250, your risk is increased.but that doesn't diagnose baby as downs
To rule out the high risk , it's better to confirm the report by a diagnostic test.
That's why amniocentesis is advisable
Next Steps
follow doctors advise
avoid stress and anxiiety
Health Tips
continue iron calcium supplements
get amniocentesis done.
also can try for NIPT/NIPS
Dual marker hast is just a screening test. Its sensitivity is about 50% only. That means the test can give false result in 50% of cases. To confirm will have to do amniocentesis.
And the NT is normal.
I had a patient with same kind of report. Her amniocentesis came out normal and she delivered a healthy baby.
So stay positive and hope for best.
Next Steps
Should do amniocentesis from a good centre and must consult fetal medicine expert.
