The vaccine can cause fever only. It does not cause a cough. Please visit a pediatrician for check up and treatment. Viral respiratory infection is likely

Hello Fever, irritability and mild pain can happen for 1–2 days after DPT. This usually settles on its own and is not harmful. Giving paracetamol as advised helps. Runny Nose & Night Cough — Not from Vaccine These symptoms are almost always due to a viral cold, not the vaccine. Vaccines do not cause cough, cold or whooping cough. Symptoms often worsen at night due to post-nasal drip. Whooping cough usually has: Severe, repeated cough bouts “Whoop” sound while breathing in Vomiting after coughing Symptoms lasting weeks Your child’s symptoms are mild and recent — more consistent with a simple viral infection.
Next Steps
Give plenty of fluids. Nasal saline drops + gentle suction before sleep. Steam in the room (not directly on the child). Continue feeding well.

Cough and cold may not be related to the vaccine; if persists, can contact me on practo or show a pediatrician personally.

Fever pain and irritability are known side effects. They respond well to right dose of paracetamol. Cough and running nose are likely to be manifestations of some other coexisting illness

Hi! The symptoms you’ve described — fever and irritability for 2–3 days after the DTP vaccine — are common and usually mild vaccine reactions. However, the new symptoms of runny nose, cough (especially at night), and wheezing are not related to the vaccine. These are more likely due to a viral upper respiratory infection or mild bronchitis, which can occur coincidentally after vaccination. The DTP vaccine itself cannot cause whooping cough, as it only contains inactivated components. If the cough is persistent (more than 2 weeks), comes in spasms, or causes vomiting or difficulty breathing, then whooping cough (pertussis) infection should be ruled out by a pediatrician.
Next Steps
Keep your child well hydrated and monitor temperature and breathing. Use saline nasal drops for nasal congestion. If wheezing persists, noisy breathing increases, or your child has difficulty feeding/sleeping, please visit your pediatrician for examination — they may advise a chest exam or nebulization if needed. Avoid exposure to cold air or smoke.
Health Tips
Most post-vaccine symptoms subside within a few days. However, any breathing difficulty, bluish lips, poor feeding, or continuous coughing spells require immediate medical attention.
