Do I have a fistula?
I got a perianal abscess in october of 2022 which drained on its own and healed. Then I got another abscess in December 2022 for this, I had an I & D. I got another abscess in the exact same spot in may for this I also got I & D. My surgeon says that if I get another abscess then he'll check for fistula by doing MRI. But I don't want to wait for another abscess, should I get an MRI now or wait?

If you feel any discomfort after sitting long time or any discharge you notice in undergarments then it is better to do MRI. Otherwise you can wait if there is recurrence.

A surgeon who has examined you is the best person to advise you here.you may take another surgical opinion in person if in doubt.
