Scaling and polishing is cleaning of teeth to remove tartar and stains from teeth. It is recommended once a year to prevent gum problems

Cleaning and scaling are same. Polishing helps to make teeth polished so they do not let calculus develop easily. No it’s not painful but some soreness may occur or mild discomfort like food stuck between teeth feel for 1-2 days sometimes.
