You should not be delaying this issue. In case of suicidal thoughts, no risk should be taken. Try consulting a psychiatrist and seeking counseling help simultaneously.
Dear Sir,
You require a combined therapy; psychotropic drug therapy from our Psychiatrist and psychotherapy from my side.

Please consult a psychiatrist at the earliest. Even though you are attributing his loss of interest in life to 'some past failures', it could be due to other mental health conditions which may be needing urgent psychiatric intervention.
Hello, I understand it might be difficult for you to go through this.
Seeing someone you love have a difficult time can be heartbreaking, so some of the ways you can help him are by
Giving support, letting him know that you are there for him.
Providing a safe environment
Talking to a Psych professional is advisable.
I hope this helps.

Health Tips
If things still feel overwhelming, it would be advisable to talk to a therapist.
Hi... Please consult a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist. If the frequency and intensity of his suicidal ideations are high, medications (anti-depressants, anti-anxiety, anti-psychotic) will be prescribed to avoid any risk to life. As his issues you have mentioned, appear to be more psycho-social in nature, Counselling will play a bigger role in treating it from the root. The decision to introduce medication or not, is upto the Psychiatrist. Pls don't decide on your own.
