Hello sir ! Fixed dental prosthesis or FDP is a mode of treatment to provide you with a fixed artificial teeth/prosthesis for your missing tooth . fixed dental prosthesis coulpd be in the form of crown and bridges or you could have a dental implant surgically placed in the region of missing tooth. For your specific condition , The indicated treatment for a single missing tooth, with adjacent teeth healthy and periodontally sound would be a dental implant. Dental implants are screws made of biocompatible titanium material , surgically placed in the area of the missing tooth. This mode of treatment requires extensive clinical and radiographic examination and also blood tests, for a dentist to proceed with the treatment. Pros : 1. No harm to adjacent teeth 2. Life long solution to your missing tooth problem 3. Cost equivalent to a a three unit bridge Cons: 1. If you're a smoker or have difficulty in maintaining oral hygiene then there are chances implant could fail 2. If it is not in your budget ( 18k-40k) For a dental bridge Pros: 1. Slightly cheaper 2. Do not have to undergo blood tests etc 3. No surgery involved 4. Can recieve prosthesis in 1 one week. Cons: 1. Your adjacent teeth could undergo decay or sensitivity 2. Might need to change the bridge in 7-8 years depending on your dental hygiene.

Implant is a boon to tooth replacement therapy with higher rate of predictability provided the parameters are suitable. Bridge is an old treatment modality which must be avoided as much as possible because today's dentistry concentrates more on preservation than causing harm to what is remaining. One tooth or multiple teeth implants are first line of treatment and has to be considered, unless finance or medical contraindications come in way of the treatment!

Hello sir. Dental Implants are biocompatible and are placed in the jaw bone where a single tooth or multiple teeth are missing. Pros of Dental Implant: • The adjacent teeth are not disturbed. • The implant is placed only in the space where the natural tooth is missing. •The support or anchorage is derived from the bone. • Crowns are either screwed or cemented to the implant abutment. • Good aesthetics and proper function of the implant crown are obtained. Cons of Dental Implant: • Expensive • Has to be maintained properly to prevent inflammation surrounding the implant which could lead to implant failure sometimes. •The crowns can be fixed immediately after implant placement or it can be delayed for a few months depending on the stability of the implant when it’s been placed. Important note for Dental Implants: •Medical records such as Diabetes, Blood pressure, Bleeding time and clotting time of blood, etc should be well within the normal range or well controlled. •The quality and quantity of the jaw bone in the missing space should be favourable to place implants. • There should be enough space between the teeth to place the implant. • The procedure should be done using proper sterilised instruments. Dental Bridges are fixed prosthesis which replace the missing tooth by taking support from the adjacent natural teeth. Pros of Dental Bridge: • Dental bridge is preferred when placement of Implant is not possible. • Less expensive when compared to implants. •Number of Dental visits are less (2-3times) • Immediate solution for missing teeth. Cons of Dental Bridge: • The support for the bridge is derived from the teeth lying adjacent to the space of the missing tooth hence the adjacent natural teeth have to be prepared or reduced in size in order to receive the bridge. • If the bridge is not proper then sensitivity of the supporting teeth can occur. • It has to be maintained and cleaned well to remove food particles which may get lodged to avoid bad breath. •Aesthetics is sometimes compromised. Important note for Dental Bridge: •The adjacent natural teeth must be healthy and immobile. RCT can also be done to the supporting teeth if required.

Implant will not affect your adjacent healthy teeth so it is a better option. However there should be sufficient bone in that area and general condition of the patient needs to be assessed before advising on the best treatment

For a single missing tooth, implant is the first line of treatment unless bone is deemed unsuitable or medical contradiction. An implant is a titanium screw inserted in the bone whch then acts to replace the missing tooth. A bridge involves cutting and shaping of adjacent natural teeth which weakens the tooth for the long run. An implant successfully replaces the missing tooth without touching adjacent natural teeth.  Today, the cost of implants is quite reasonable and not too different from the cost of a bridge too so should consider implant as your preferred line of treatment.

Definitely dental implant. A bridge requires healthy teeth to be trimmed which is not advisable as compared to an implant that does not harm your natural teeth. If there are no medical contraindications then an implant is always a better treatment option.
Next Steps
consult an implant specialist/prosthodontist
Health Tips
ask your dentist about the company of the implant.

An implant is a lifetime answer to a missing tooth situation vs a bridge which is dependent on the longevity of the supporting teeth. Implant is a surgical treatment usually costing more at than a bridge and longer treatment duration.
