No, this does not pose a risk of HIV transmission. HIV is not spread by touching currency notes or by indirect contact. No testing or treatment is required for this exposure. If you remain anxious or have further concerns, consult a physician for reassurance.
No risk at all â you cannot get HIV this way. HIV is an extremely fragile virus that cannot survive on surfaces outside the body. It dies within seconds to minutes when exposed to air and dry surfaces. Currency notes, doorknobs, food, and everyday objects cannot transmit HIV regardless of who touched them before you. HIV requires a very specific direct route of transmission â blood-to-blood contact, unprotected sex, or mother-to-child â none of which apply here. Applying lip balm after touching money is not a transmission route under any circumstances. Please be fully reassured and do not worry about this at all.
Next Steps
No action or testing is needed. If worrying about infections from everyday surfaces is affecting your daily life, a conversation with a doctor about health anxiety would be helpful. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.
